A Bro and His Past

stopwatch-its

Hey bros,

Now that you have enough free time to be reading this article, I want you to use some of that time to step back and think about your boyhood for a little while.

Are you in the same area where you spent that time today, or did you move hundreds or thousands of miles out of there? Did you have any family members that you really liked – not just because you thought you had to, but because you thought they were awesome people? Can you remember learning something that you really enjoyed? Maybe you were lucky enough to turn it into a career, or maybe you’re studying it in a university now.

Some people love to say, “you are what you do,” but in reality, that’s only part of you. Your life isn’t inside you. Your life is what you remember, and that’s what makes your memories so powerful. To try to forget your past can only mean taking away from yourself. It can be hard to talk about bad memories with other people, because they tend to immediately think that you’re still struggling with them. The truth is, you shouldn’t forget how you came to terms with bad experiences, just like you shouldn’t forget how much you loved the good ones.

The bottom line is that you’re not an isolated dude. And when you have a close bro, you can talk with him about things like this – and just as importantly, listen to him talk about them – and you’ll both be able to understand and relate to each other.

Try it!

Later,
-The Blog Dude
